Eric Stracener

By day, Eric Stracener is a family man, an attorney, and a down-to-earth guy but by night, he is a gracious Mississippi rocker who has been lucky enough to find the ultimate balance between his wife and kids, his career and his music.

Although he had been exposed to all sorts of music over the course of his life, Eric didn’t start playing guitar until his senior year in college while battling the stress of his thesis and looking for an escape from the pressure.  From there, he started to write songs that he says, looking back, weren’t very good.  Eric has come a long way.  On his first album, “Sockeye”, he wanted to keep things simple.  The songs were his “babies” and he wanted to do them just the way that he had envisioned them when they were written.  But on his most recent album, “The Trickbag”, Eric wanted to do something different.  He joined forces with The Frustrations, creating a sound that proved to be much different from his first record.  Eric says that the writing for the second album is the same, but attributes the difference in sound to the talent of The Frustrations, all of whom he has long admired.  The album “sounds bigger” says Stracener. He says that it was a lot of fun to make and he was excited to get to play with Cary Hudson and says that he can’t think of a better group of musicians to play with.  Eric feels honored that they all agreed to play with him, a testament to the genuine soul of a real musician.

Eric’s sound is a blend of the honesty of folk and the integrity of southern rock and even if you don’t consider yourself a fan of the genres, it is almost impossible not to find the combination endearing and worthy of a listen.   He draws his inspiration from many places and acknowledges the early influence in his life of Elton John, Elvis Costello, and even The Minutemen.

Eric Stracener considers himself to be one of the lucky ones.  He gets to raise a family, work in the field that he chose, and still manages to maintain the passion for what he loves.  Music.  Although he is an exceptionally talented musician, he wouldn’t trade his life for the on-the-road one.  The sincerity of Eric Stracener shows through in his songs.  He plays his heart out and you can’t help but feel it.
